A finished Object!

The day before Christmas Eve I cast off the big green shawl. Washed it and blocked it on the carpet with untold numbers of pins. The wingspan is so long I couldn’t fit the whole thing in one picture.

I am quite amazed that I actually finished something this fall. Admittedly it is on large needles, but still, it’s a reasonable amount of knitting and as I look back over things I can’t imagine where I found the time. A lot of it was done in lectures. I loved washing it and seeing the spinning oil come out and feeling the wool get softer. It’s a lovely thing to drape around my shoulders, and the edging is very pretty; I’d use that pattern again. I do actually wear shawls, especially this winter, with heating costs rising. I love to have one draped on the back of my living room chair, to cover my shoulders or my toes while I’m reading, and knitting the next thing.
With the completion of one project, the initiation of another becomes urgent. I ordered a sweater kit from Cottage Craft Woollens and, oh frabjous day, it came before I left for the holidays. Now I’m relaxing in California with my Mother and Friend, and here’s the back of the sweater:

It’s a basic raglan cabled cardigan, nothing exciting, but it will be very useful. I’m not good at knitting sweaters for some reason, but I hope this one will turn out alright because the pattern is written for this yarn specifically and surprisingly I got gauge, or at least very close.
